Fall in Phoenix.
Still too damn hot.
It’s the middle of September, three weeks since the first night I slept with Cade. Three glorious, amazing, incredible weeks of spending every free moment I have with Cade. Which is not enough, but just the right amount to keep me wanting more.
This overwhelming feeling of happiness is like having a drum full of butterflies flittering inside my stomach every waking hour. I’ll go for days on Cloud 9, walking around with a stupid, love struck grin on my face. And then a dark, ominous cloud moves in to remind me who I am and that whatever this thing is with Cade won’t last. Nothing ever does. Especially not between me and Cade.
I’m not sure the exact moment it became a boyfriend/girlfriend thing between us, but it happened. Definitely not something either one of us expected to happen. We haven’t discussed it, but my Spidey-sense tells me Cade’s never had or wanted a girlfriend. That’s one thing we share in common – because I’ve never been anyone’s girlfriend. It takes time and effort, both of which I don’t have. Cade and I are from such opposite worlds; you’d think we’d clash.
But we don’t. The weird thing is, even though we are each hella busy – it works. Much to my surprise, and utter enjoyment, Cade is a romantic guy. He texts me first thing every morning, calling me beautiful and sexy. Saying things like he wishes I was there with him. That he wants to hold my naked body next to his. And from there it generally gets X-rated. I’ve learned the hard way that I have to shield my phone screen, lest someone accidentally get a peek at the naughty nature of my boyfriend.
The other day I was at the kitchen table reading his text while eating breakfast and Anika started reading it over my shoulder.
Cade: You know what I want to do to you tonight?
Me: I’m afraid to ask…but of course I want to know.
Cade: See how far your legs can stretch behind your ears.
Me: Ha…I’m not that flexible.
Cade: We’ll see about that. I’ll give you a good rub down first.
Me: Perv.
Cade: And you love it…
Anika snickered from behind me, as I practically jumped off my chair. I hadn’t even heard her come in, I’d been so wrapped up in visualizing Cade and my limberness. I quickly flipped the phone upside down and set it on the table, blushing as brightly as a beacon in a storm.
But those are the type of texts I get from Cade. And they always get me hot and bothered. He gets me hot and bothered.
We don’t get a ton of time to spend with each other, between jobs, school and his training schedule for his upcoming basketball season. But we do find time when we’re both on campus to meet up and grab a bite to eat or chat over coffee. And on the rare occasions when I’m not working in the evening or the weekends, I spend time over at his apartment with him and his friends.
